Feature Friday: St. Paddy’s Day Shows

Feature Friday: St. Paddy’s Day Shows

We’ve rounded up all the St. Paddy’s Day themed live music pub shows we could find! At Bytown Sound, we like to call St. Paddy’s Day “National Cover Band Day”, so go to one of Ottawa’s many ambiguously Irish pubs and show your support for a local cover band, they work hard all year long to perform their colourful renditions of great songs past and present. These bars are going to be packed, so don’t forget to try and get where you’re going early. The last time St. Pat’s was on a Friday was 2006, so we think it might get a wee bit cray cray out there. Be safe! Call taxis, stay with your friends, drink lots of water, but most importantly, see as much as this great local music as you can!

The Black Irish Pub
15 Selkirk St
Where better to go on St. Patrick’s than the Black Irish Pub? They have traditional Irish music starting at 12 pm (noon). Clan Daestyn takes the stage at 3 pm, a Celtic fusion band that blends traditional east coast with American and Caribbean styles, parlour bagpipes included. Then at 7 pm they’re hosting a kitchen party! Bring your instrument or just come to watch some serious musicians jam out some Celtic and east coast favourites. Clan Daestyn will continue the night until “the luck runs out”.The best part? It’s free! Oh, and there’s a contest for best outfit.

The House of Targ
1077 Bank St
HoT is showcasing Ottawa’s Celtic rock legends Jimmy George! If you like Great Big Sea, Spirit of the West, or The Pogues, then this is where you’ll want to be tonight. This is your chance to see this super fun, legendary band play for the holiday of their people. No weird green beer or funny hats here, just some good times. The evening gets started at 9 pm, $10.

Irene’s Pub
885 Bank St
Eru-Era a seven-piece hype funk band led by baritone sax, tenor sax, and trumpet with keys, drums, bass, and guitar. These guys are seriously talented musicians, playing music “from the nasty part of the heart”. Eru-Era have just come off a residency at Irene’s Pub and are back by popular demand to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, promising a mashup of Celtic/funk . Music starts at 9:30 pm!

The Rainbow Bistro
76 Murray St.
Ottawa blues rock band Crunchy Flower will be celebrating St. Paddy’s on the Rainbow stage tonight. They’re a driving, riffing, harmonizing classic blues quartet performing original and well-worn favourites. They’ll be sure to throw in a few Irish folk songs and Celtic favourites for good measure. Music starts at 9:30 pm!
